Paul ( 55 ) worked in the Netherlands with maladjusted children, but he was also for many years staff-member at ‘Youth and Mission’, now Dare2go. In recent years he worked with drug addicts and difficult to rehabilitate children. Besides his work he developed as an artist with his own style, in which you will find many elements from other cultures.

The combination of artistic and educational qualities were the basis for a mission to Jinja in Uganda, by the end of 2007. This mission was made possible by ‘People with a Mission’, a Dutch development organization. He worked in Jinja four years at the ADSN ( Adolescent Development Support Network ). ADSN operates a drop-in center in the city, and several smaller centers in the suburbs . Paul has new activities added to the existing: arts, play, drama and creative methodologies and working on capacity development of the organization.

After 4 years, the contract is not renewed. Meanwhile he founded along with Willem ‘KisoBOKa’ a local NGO, dedicated to young people and vulnerable groups in the society. Through this organization, he got a new contract and was appointed as the coordinator social work. He played an important role in the development of creative activities and counseling for young people and rehabilitation for youngsters of the street.

Back in the Netherlands he got a job as social manager of a social garden (www.wereldtuinverdeliet.nl) .

He loves working in the garden, painting and sculpting.

 

Over 40 years William (69) was active in various forms of youth work . The last 20 years he was director of ‘Youth & Mission’. An organization that gives young people the chance to deal with everyday life in all parts of the world. Now it is called Dar2go. But for all that time he was interested in other cultures and traveling is one of his favorite hobbies. His first visit to Africa was in 1970 and then he returned there many times . Professional – working visit and as supervisor of various tours – or as a volunteer on various projects . When he got the chance to retire earlier, go to Africa to work there together with Paul for a number of years.

They went to Uganda, where they settled in Jinja, the second city of the country with more than 120,000 inhabitants. Willem was running the KisoBOKa – house and running Bulikimu KisoBOKa NGO, of which he was the treasurer and interim manager .

Back in the Netherlands, he became the secretary of the Dutch KisoBOKa Foundation.

Paul (55) werkte in Nederland met moeilijk opvoedbare kinderen, maar hij was ook jarenlang stafkracht bij Jongeren en Missie, nu Dare2go. De laatste jaren werkte hij o.m. met drugsverslaafden en moeilijk te rehabiliteren kinderen. Naast zijn werk ontwikkelde hij zich als kunstenaar met een eigen stijl, waarin veel elementen uit andere culturen terug te vinden zijn.

De combinatie van artistieke en opvoedkundige kwaliteiten waren de basis voor een uitzending naar Jinja in Uganda, eind 2007. Deze uitzending werd mogelijk gemaakt door ‘Mensen met een Missie’, een Nederlandse ontwikkelingsorganisatie. Hij werkte in Jinja 4 jaar bij het ADSN (Adolescent Development Support Network). ADSN beheert een inloopcentrum in de stad, en heeft verschillende kleinere centra in de buitenwijken. Paul heeft nieuwe activiteiten toegevoegd aan de bestaande: kunsteducatie, spel, drama en creatieve methodieken en gewerkt aan capaciteitsontwikkeling van de organisatie.

Na 4 jaar is het contract niet vernieuwd. Inmiddels had hij samen met Willem ‘KisoBOKa, een lokale NGO, die zich inzet voor jongeren en zwakke groepen in de samenleving. Via deze organisatie kreeg hij een nieuw contract en benoemd tot coördinator sociaal werk. Hij speelde een belangrijke rol in de ontwikkeling van creatieve activiteiten en counseling en het rehabilitatieprogramma voor jongeren van de straat.

Terug in Nederland is hij nu beheerder van een ontmoetings- en belevingstuin (www.wereldtuinverdeliet.nl) . Hij houdt van werken in de tuin, schilderen en beeldhouwen.

 

 

Willem (69) was ruim 40 jaar actief in verschillende vormen van jeugdwerk. De laatste 20 jaar was hij directeur van Jongeren & Missie. Een organisatie die jongeren de kans geeft kennis te maken met het dagelijkse leven in alle delen van de wereld. Nu Dar2go. Maar al voor die tijd was hij geïnteresseerd in andere culturen en reizen is een van zijn favoriete hobby’s. Zijn eerste bezoek aan Afrika was in 1970 en daarna keerde hij er vele malen terug. Professioneel – op werkbezoek en als begeleider van diverse groepsreizen – of als vrijwilliger op diverse projecten. Toen hij mogelijkheden zag vervroegd met pensioen te gaan, greep hij die kans aan om samen met Paul, voor een aantal jaren naar Afrika te vertrekken.

Het werd Uganda, waar ze zich vestigden in Jinja, de tweede stad van het land met ruim 120.000 inwoners. Willem hield zich bezig met het runnen van het KisoBOKa-huis en het besturen van Bulikimu KisoBOKa NGO, waarvan hij penningmeester was en interim-manager.

Terug in Nederland werd hij secretaris van de stichting KisoBOKa en doet nog ander vrijwilligerswerk.
